Call for participants

The Fresh Eye platform for visual culture studies in collaboration with visual critic and activist Nicholas Mirzoeff call for participation in a two-day online program on the phenomena, principles and strategies of contemporary visual activism. WAVE: Workshops on Activism and Visuality in Europe will be held online on November 19 and 20, 2021 and will present an intensive program including workshops, hosted discussions and sharing examples of good practice led by inspirational critics, activists and artists whose creative work is strongly linked to solving the current, primarily human rights and social global issues such as racism, migration, growing populism and preserving community memory. Over the course of two days, the participants will meet and work with personalities like Nicholas Mirzoeff (USA), political sociologist Alana Lentin (AU), author and designer Justinien Tribillon (FR/UK), philosopher Francesca Martinez Tagliavia (IT), visual artist Bahar Behbahani (IRN/USA) and activist and writer Houria Bouteldja (DZ/FR).

15 participants from the region of Central and Eastern Europe will be selected to take part in the program. The program is open to representatives of the cultural, artistic, non-profit and educational sectors and is free. To apply, submit a brief motivation letter or short video essay in English to present your relation to the field of visual activism.
